Question: What historical figure is represented by Napoleon and what features do they have in common?

Napoleon represents Stalin for the following reasons:

  • He opposes Snowball’s (Trotsky’s) ideas and later uses Snowball’s ideas to his own benefit.
  • Blames Snowball for everything that occurs (even when he was absent).
  • He assumes as “Leader” of the farm and makes his own rules.
  • No one objects to him, if they do his guard dogs threaten them.
  • Makes minor changes to the Commandments.

Napoleon is an ambitious and powerful character who likes to get his way, Napoleon is actually Joseph Stalin in reality and they have a lot of things in common,
For an example

STALIN

-He acted as a leader with Trotsky after the Russian revolution.
-He was not quite well educated compared to Trotsky.
-He ordered someone to kill Trotsky.

NAPOLEON

-He acts as one of two leaders of animal farm with snowball
-He isn’t as clever as snowball.
-He runs of snowball when he felt threaten by snowball.

Examples of metaphors in Romeo and Juliet

METAPHOR=a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in “A mighty fortress is our God.” Compare mixed metaphor, simile.

Here are two examples of metaphors in Romeo and Juliet,

1.Romeo= “My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.” (I think that Romeo is feeling excited to kiss juliet and he is saying kissing juliet would be a religious experience)

2.  Romeo=”But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.”( In this metaphor Romeo is comparing Juliet to the sun)

POINT: Shakespeare used a wide range of powerful language in his play “Romeo and Juliet”. One of these is a metaphor.

EXAMPLE: When Lady Capulet is trying to convince Juliet to agree to marry Paris, she describes him as a book for juliet to read.  Lady Capulet: “Find written in the margent of his eyes. This precious book of love, this unbound lover.”

EXPLINATION: In describing Paris as a book, Lady Capulet is trying to suggest that the benifits of marrying him are easy to see, she then continues to suggest all he needs is a “cover”-as in juliet herself.

Metaphor in Romeo and Juliet

Your task is to identify the metaphor present in the following excerpt and then write a paragraph that explains the metaphor and its effect on the meaning of the passage it is embedded in.

 

ROMEO

I fear, too early: for my mind misgives
Some consequence yet hanging in the stars
Shall bitterly begin his fearful date
With this night’s revels and expire the term
Of a despised life closed in my breast
By some vile forfeit of untimely death.
But He, that hath the steerage of my course,
Direct my sail! On, lusty gentlemen.

Practice Task

“These violent delights have violent ends”   such is the theme of romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare; his whole  play orchestrated to prove this point: that only violence will come of violence. Fate is revealed in Romeo and Juliet in many ways, but one of the most important is through the plot device of co-incidence.  Romeo went the party to meet rosiline  and they met and fell in love and he wasn’t expecting that to happen.

Romeo and juliet practice question

One piece of evidence that deals with fate in Romeo and Juliet is through the things of what the character say like in the book one of the characters quote “a pair of star cross’d lovers take their life”  so it is trying to say that their death is per-determined.

Play

This is When Romeo sees  a  broadcast of a caplet party and when he sees the man that can’t read the invite.
There are two scenes, one that is in the olden days and the one in the modern day .
The first one is when Romeo sees the broadcast on tv about the party he goes with his friend.
The second one is When Romeo sees the man that can’t read he looks at the invite and then goes to the party.
Romeo
Whither? To supper?
Servant
To our house.
Romeo
Who’s house?
Servant
My masters.
Romeo
Indeed I should have asked thee that before.
Servant
Now I’ll tell you without asking. My master is the great rich caplet.

Interpretations of Romeo and juliet (film and the book) project

The differences between the Book and the film is that when you watch the film it is in more detail for an example the weather changes when mecutio dies and sets a curse between the two households Catherine weather goes all cloudy and thunder strikes but on the other hand in the book if you are confused you can read over it and understand the meaning of the quotes.In Romeo and Juliet there is a chain of events that lead to PATHETIC F ALLACY  which is the attribution of human emotions  or characteristics, it is the treatment of inanimate objects as if they had human feelings.
